New Member just joined

Hello, I joined the forum and wanted to be able to share some train videos, and also find out more about the trains, I just bought a small one, HO I think , it was a great bargain in an antique store for 20.00 and included everything, it is actually pretty old, and everything works, 8 cars and long tracks.

Welcome Aboard.

[#welcome] to the forums.

If you have questions, feel free to ask, many years of experience here.

Feel free to share all you like, we love that.

In the lower right side margin you will find a “search our community” section where you can type in key words to get a list of many threads on any topic.

There are new techs form the old standards your trains set employs.

At the top here is a black tool bar with a “shop” botton onthe far right., and the very top gray tool bar also has a shop button where you can buy books on the subjects of model railroading {MRRing}.

MRRing is fun and enjoyable hobby, with no right or wrong way to enjoy it.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome to model railroading and the forums.

Since you seem to be new to the hobby, might I suggest you either go to Shop above, as suggested, or to your local hobby shop and get a good beginners book on the hobby. It will help you get headed in the right direction. Getting trains running is the goal of the hobby, but if you have a direction planned, you will make fewer mistakes (we all make some).

You will find there are folks in the hobby who run a plywood central, because they enjoy strictly operations and don’t worry about scenery. At the other end of the spectrum are folks who do beautiful, highly detailed scenic layouts and the trains run through them. Most of us fall in between, some degree of scenery and some operation (more than trains just running in a loop).

There are a number of ways to do things in the hobby, none are right or wrong, just figure out which is “right” for you.

Read, ask (no question is dumb, if you don’t know the answer) and most of all…

Have fun,

Richard

Welcome to the site Billy

This site was of great help when I first got started in the hobby. There is a learning curve to this hobby as you get more advanced. Thanks to the great people here I got through the curve and while I cannot say I am a master by any means (there are some here) I can run trains for months with no derailing problems. When there is a problem, I can fix it.

So ask questions and if you don’t understand a answer or term (terms really threw me off) ask again.

Have fun, Cuda Ken

Welcome to the asylum. You WILL learn things here, even if you try not to do so! I’m curious about your antique shop find - any photos?
