I have noticed a lot of new members, who are not really new to the forum, but just didnt seem to post much, or make many replies on the old format, but now seem to become active again, and a lot of new members who really are new to the site. Question for both groups.
What made you decide to return, or, if your really new, what or who introduced you to this site?
For those of you gone for a while, welcome back, and for those of you new to this forum, welcome, we need more input, and a fresh viewpoint.

Hi, I’m a new member. I’m 17 and I’ve been a railfan… well… as far back as I can remember 
A while ago I discovered trains.com and went there regularly for information, or just to browse around, and it only recently occurred to me to join the forums - above all else, because I like to stay connected to the railfan community, and figured it would be a good way to get or share information, stories, opinions, and such. I never posted on the old forums. The format made it hard
to follow a thread. The new forums may be a little slow but they are much
more user friendly for me.[:)]There was a post on the Finescale forum
announcing the changes . So I decided to check it out.
Seems like a great place to learn and share information.
Hate to see negativity creeping in though .Takes all the fun out.

Yeah, I hate to see that also. Two un-informed railroad haters making the most foolish claims, one of them works for a PI lawyer, the other is just a basket case. Beyond theat, most of the folks here are good guys and gals. Most of the railroaders here seem eager to share their knowledge.
You mentioned finescale, would I be incorrect to assume you also have knowledge of proto 87? Does anyone make a good turnout, our do you still have to build your own?

I posted occasionally on the old forums, but the new forums set-up is more familiar to me. Several other on-line forums that I’m on use the Snitz forums, so I’m familiar with them.[8D]
Actually, I was run off the old forums several years ago because I made the mistake of not taking THE OFFICIAL UNION POSITION on everything. Sorry, but I spent my entire railroad career in management, in marketing, pricing, and sales, and have a different viewpoint on things. I respect the right of others to have a different opinion, but the union guys don’t. My ethnicity, legitimacy, ancestry and sexual orientation were all called into question, even though they were never brought up by me. [V][V][V]

We started their forums about six months ago and it has been really successful. The community is very friendly and members are very helpful with each other. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you do any kind of modeling.

Well, you shouldnt have that problem now. As far as I am concerned, the UTU isnt a Labor Union anymore, it is a insurance underwriter for life and job insurance, and will take no action that could or would distrub their business. Useless as a union, but good as a insurance company.They are a bunch of[:o)]

thanks for correcting my mistake.[:I] Ed I do have some cars with semi
scale wheels and I’ve read some on proto87 but I haven’t converted any
thing.As far as turnouts go I think you have to build your own. I could be
wrong because I have not kept up with proto87 lately.
All the fussing makes it hard to learn and have
fun . There’s too much in everyday life to have it take over hobbies that
relieve stress and ARE FUN!

Hi Ed, now that I understand this new format, I seem to like it. One good part is that you always seem to have the perfect statements and observations to help others out. My only question is how do you have time to do it.

I have read Trains magazine for some time but until I got High Speed hooked up, it was way too slow for me to browse the forums. Now that speed restrictions are nil, I have been greatly educated (and entertained) by following the various topics. And the new forum layout is great.

Canadian and proud to be so. Ya know, once CN takes over the entire USA, we’ll ALL be Canadian and then our brothers and sisters to the south will get to appreciate the joys we take for granted. Molsen Canadian (and the commercials that go with it), Bon Homme de Neige, moose in the back yard (white tails in mine) and one of the finest rail systems in the world. (now THAT may generate some heat)

I hope that will not happen again!! I have a question for you. I see a lot of empty spine cars or lumber cars heading back North empty. Do railroads make money on one way cars? Have they looked into finding a commodity to load on these cars so they do not go back empty? Seems to me in today’s economy one way loaded cars are break even cars.
Havent decided if I like all the new gadgets or not, but it sure looks a lot better, and I like being able to move around as easily as you can. And the e-mail thing was a great addition.
