Does anyone know where the Pantographs are on the new METRA Electric cars? They look like traditional METRA bi-level cars. However, I have yet to see the pantographs. Does anyone have a picture?
They may not need pantographs.
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but how do they draw their power then?
PANTOGRAPHS! PANTOGRAPTHS!? You want to see their PANTOGRAPHS!
They don’t need to show you no stinkeeeng PANTOGRAPHS.
Actually, they’ll use an entirely new system that pulls the train along though a magnetic induction system that provides traction from the wire without a Pan. It’s ben tested a the AAR facility in Pueblo and it works fine on shorter trains such as the Metra Electric runs.
And if you believe that, bet the farm on #6 in the 8th race at Palm Beach tomorrow night.
coburn35 may have more info but I think just a cable running from the generator on the gerbel cage to the motor.
If you have a picture of one of the new cars without a pantograph, it simply means that they are delivered incomoplete with some equipment applied at the overhaul and maintenance shop. As far as I know, the pantograph arrangement duplicates what the older bilevel cars have.
Thanks Dave for a serious answer.
Could we see some pics? And settle down please. All the answers have been serious. I will try to find some pics now.
