I made some tentative steps to add some vegetation today. (I am never certain how something will look until I try it). One advantage to modelling West Texas is you don’t need many trees. Interestingly, I lightly sprayed the peak in the backgound with light grey paint to give the appearance of distance.
It worked!

Thanks for all your favorable comments. To the question from NSLAKEDIV, I am just starting and am working on the West wall of my 16x 16 ft layout room. I have round the wall trackage with a return loop at each end, but the picture shows the only scenics I have attempted. The mountain has another hidden-trackage return loop inside that has access from underneath. My progress so far, along with descriptions of materials used can be seen at:

Really a super layout Bryant…and interesting photos of your modeling materials and techniques. I love that kind of stuff. It’s very helpful. [:)]

I think it is really pathetic that some folks are going out and taking pictures of real railroad scenes and then passing them off as pictures of their layout! All kidding aside, GREAT WORK. If you are ever in Richardson (just north of Dallas), stop by and I’ll let you do the scenery on my pike (now does that show my age or what?).

To trollw: You have probably guessed by now that I am a native Texan that somehow ended up in Northeast Georgia. Georgia is nice but there is no place like home. Thanks to all for the encouragement. As for the rockwork, it is like anything else. Once you get on to the tricks, it gets easy (and fun). Of course, there is a danger that I will end up with the only “Badlands MRR” in the country if I don’t soon re-direct my efforts .
