I have an sw9 switcher by MTH with proto 2.This afternoon It started buzzing loudly. When I turned of the power it still buzzed. It was still buzzing 10 minutes later.I took it apart and disconncted the battery. It buzzed for about another two seconds.(no exageration) When I re-installed the battery the buzing came back. After removing the battery again it stopped and everything seems normal now.Has anyone had this problem ? What should I look for ? Should I worry ?
Sorry Ed, couldnt resist. Thats a wierd one though. Wonder if it had something to do with your electricity. A drop or surge ? Or some sort of interference caused by something in the neighborhood?
Havent heard of anything like that happening before.
Reread your post. Has to be a glitch in one of the sound boards. Maybe just a one time thing. Ya never know with that stuff anymore. Is the battery fresh?
I believe this was discussed in a previous thread, that, that is false about a LOT of Proto 2 boards burning up. So to anyone new here, there are no more problems with one brand than there are with the other, though there can be problems & sometimes it is the user & sometimes not. As one member here told you, in another thread, a lot of frying boards are “Bogus” .
I have to agree wtih John on this one. I have owned PS2 enignes since they came out in 2000 and how have over a dozen of them and NO problems on any of the boards.
Such generalized types of statements really should be avoided, IMO, unless you have actual documented evidence. Like Tom, I have well over a dozen of PS2 loco’s and have yet to experience one problem. I believe the MTH quality control is prettty darn good when an engine is shipped, although it does seem to appear that some folks just have a dark cloud hanging over them.
