New N or O scale Layout

And cut the walkways down to 24". That should give me another 2-3 staging tracks, double main, turntable, and another 1-2 tracks for the passenger station.

True, but I would have few structures: 2-3 industries, passenger station, and a maintenance shed. Perhaps a coal loader, but thats optional.

hi lover,

i am not your sugar-daddy, nor a wizard or a magician…it is up to you to draw your dreams and start with a drawing of your room.

O-scale, #4 switches and a 36" minimum radius; drawn with a 24" grid.

You do not seem to realise how big a turntable with 10 stalls is, beside being able to reach every corner of your layout. Unless you do a bit more then “asking” i am out of this thread.

BTW with engines like the big boy you will have clearance problems. The big boy is not really modern and is the kind of engine that pulled 100 car freight trains along the Platte. Why do you want a turntable that is to short for your prize engine?

Have fun, keep smiling and amaze us.

Paul

Lol. Paul, you’re a saint! [bow]

The BB would be housed in a separate area, but the TT is for my modern diesels (all under 24").

I think I’m going to build off your original O scale design (if that’s ok with you) and incorporate a TT in there somehow.

And I think you mean “trainlover” and not just “lover”. Otherwise, you’re a creep. [^o)]

Quick ?

What layout planning software is that? Seems like it’s easy to use and understand. Do you recommend it for someone who is okay at layout planning? Thanks Paul!

Scott,

be a little more cautious with your posts. There are quite a lot of helpful people in here which you may have put off with some of your remarks.

Paul, like me is using the Atlas freebie RTS software, which you can download from the Atlas home page. Like any other track planning software, there is a learning curve attached to it and it might take some time to get the knack of it. Don´t expect it to give you satisfying results right from the beginning. With a little exercise, you can prepare track plans looking like this:

You took the word right out of my mouth. I suppose that is why HO has been the most popular scale in the US. I realize N is a no brainer in Japan and Europe were real estate is much more limited.

If you read anymore than the first 2 posts, you would have read that I’mstaying O, and I’m not gonna waste more money. [#offtopic] Illiterates…

One more [#offtopic] post and I’m closing all of my forums. I’m tired of people not reading the complete post, or just randomly posting whatever is on their mind. This is supposed to be a fun and united hobby, but random spammers are ruining it for the rest of us. I am truely sorry to those that read this and are offended, as I mean no offense to anyone who is trying to help, or wants help. MR needs a spam block…

He wasn’t telling you to switch to N scale. The people in this thread have been more than accommodating to you to the point of doing all the work for you in designing YOUR layout. All it seems you’ve done is ask for help and then insult the people who have given it to you.

May I suggest relaxing a bit? You are the one who posted a thread with a title that suggested that you were uncertain about what scale to model in (N or O scale).

Your desired modeling subjects (e.g. having several yards on the same layout) are obviously far better suited for N scale than O scale.

People started discussing scales, and then you grouchily curse them all as “**** critics”, and declare that you have chosen O scale seemingly based on nothing more than you having some “very rare O scale items that [you] would like to run” and you “being on a budget”

No discussion on how these “very rare items” related to your stated design goals (Unstoppable, sizable chunk of Milwaukee or copying an N scale design with lots of tracks, which clearly would be fairly unworkable in O scale in the given space).

No discussion on how being on a budget interacted with the idea of doing a layout with lots of stuff on it (rather than a sparse design where cost could be kept down more).

Not much apparent willingness to discuss the consequences of choosing O scale, in terms of curve radii, scene depths etc.

You seem to have switched from your original desired modeling subjects to Paul’s design no 3, with no discussion of why.

Well said Stein

24" turntable. If you’re going to mock me, get it right. [soapbox]

And the boys over at CTT are right, MR bloggers really don’t care about the hobby, just pushing their ideas as to spend someone else’s money. Good God! Don’t be this guy —[banghead]

I truly hope you get banned and this ridiculous thread gets locked. Ask for help, provide little or no useful information, then mock everyone trying to lend a hand. Good luck…

And…It’s a wrap! (Locked)
