Is this NS’s new paint scheme http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=299004. If it is, are they going to do this to all there new engines coming out, from now on?
Oh, I hope not! This one was special for the battery-powered demo.
It’s a battery powered Green Machine. I would hope it isn’t used on anything else but 999.
It almost[xx(] looks better than the black, just almost.
Don’t get me wrong, I love NS, but their paint scheem is just dreadful. But, I’m not sure green is their color either. Actualy, I don’t really know what NS’s color would be…[%-)]
Oog. If they are going to use green, it should be the same green that was used on the passenger locomotives. I don’t think that a combination of that green and the Tuscan red (N&W) would work.
Johnny
I’m with Justin on this one. It is MUCH better than plain black and white. I would also like to se some done in Tuscan red, either all red and white or with black and white in a scheme similar to the BP. Plain B&W just gets old, fast.
PRR tuscan would be a good choice IMHO… It’s in the heritage. It’s not SOU green, NW red or Conrail blue.
Its just for the battery powered engines, I doubt Wick would paint all of them like that. I am sure that NS 999 runs better than the old GP38 it once was…
Southern Green would look much nicer.
Kevin
I hope whoever came up with that paint scheme was reassigned to a new department. I’ve always thought the black was fine for NS but if it must change Tuscan Red or Southern Green please.
At least the shade of green could pay respect to the Southern’s part of the NS heritage.

Nahhh - Lightning Bolts !!! Z Z Z Or maybe ‘Reddy Kilowatt’ in a conductor’s uniform ?
For more info on the 999, check out the comments under the photo that’s linked in the 1st post above. And thanks much for that, too ! [tup]

In flashing neon on the side of the locomotive! (Paul, you are dating yourself!)
That neon idea would work for me !I suppose I am showing my age - he was a big public relations icon for all of the electric companies back then - but it’s my wife who is really the big fan of Reddy !
For those who don’t know - no one who ever saw him could forget him, I think - see:

One-time-only paint jobs for experimentals or test beds is not that unusual. Consider the SD40-2’s modified by BNSF for compressed natural gas or refrigerated liquid methane. In a similar vein, the Chicago Transit Authority had a special maroon and gray paint job for some PCC rapid transit cars equipped with various types of electrical gear for testing.
As I was growing up, I thought that Reddy Kilowatt belonged to the Duke Power Company, which sold electricity to our local electric company. In college, I did not see him, because the TVA was the provider. I do not remember for certain, but I may have seen him in advertisements in Georgia, but when I moved to Alabama, I really saw him, and realized that he was not limited to just one company–not having any idea that Alabama Power gave birth to him.

I am very familiar with Reddy Killowatt since my father worked for Southern California Edison for almost 30 years. I didn’t know he had his own website, though.I think the best NS color scheme would be the current logo on a Southern green carbody.
I’d like Southern Green, N&W scheem would also look nice. (I don’t like the last scheem of N&W it’s black and white as well) For some reason I think that red and grey would look nice as well. Not that the RR cares about this, but B&W is a challange photographicaly, as it is hard to make intresting.
Justin
The headlight looks odd. Can anyone tell me what I’m seeing?
I like the paint job. [^]
