New Orleans breaks ground on streetcar expansion
What in the world took so long for this to happen??? I know the walk to canal st and Charles St. Lines. Not fun and at night pretty sketchy. I figured it was just standard NOLA dysfunction. Do we thank Katrina?
Happy for the expansion, but Mayor Landrieu’s calling the system “the envy of the world” is just a bit over the top. It’s definitely iconic, though, in all its quirky charm. Call it, maybe, “the Desire of the world?”
Once again, the NEWSWIRE map does not clearly show the proposed route.
The replica cars are OK, but I hope the original cars can be kept running forever. The sound of traction motors and air compressors are a main attraction, along with riding with open windows. The replicas are “generic”, reminding me of riding the modern “el” trains here in Chicago.
