New Orleans Rail Belt (and other assorted New Orleans railroading goodies)

This past week I was in New Orleans on a missions trip, and from the church we were staying at I could see some railroad tracks (I think they were KCS since there was a KCS office near the tracks). A couple times I saw what appeared to be a red Green Goat for what appeared to be “New Orleans Rail Belt.” Did I see right? If not what was I seeing?

I’m also wondering about the trolly system down there. They look pretty retro…so are they from “way back when” or are they new old looking trolleys?

Erik

Your “red” green goat isnt a green goat at all, but the NPB’s Mk1500d…
Keep you eyes peeled for a six axel version, black with a red stripe, it is the MK2000D…I think the unit is numberd 601, if I remember correctly.

Is this shortline still in operation with is original equipment, considering any locos that were in the flood area after Katrina have to be rebuild because of malfunctioning water logged traction motors.

Shots 1 &2 show the MK, or Motive Power, or Boise Locomotive (what ever they are calling themselves this year) 1500 and 2000 hp units.
Was wondering where the 2003 went…we had it for a few months on lease about two years ago…

I can assure you that isn’t what I saw…what I saw had the little “nose” as the short hood similar to the Green Goat.

Does anyone have photos of the Mk1500d? (I’m sorry if that’s what was up there…I didn’t pay attention and my internet has issues with pop-up windows so I don’t want to do it to much).

Scroll down to the third photo…shows my MU set of MK1500Ds on the right, next to a brand new BNSF locomotive.
This is the nose, or front of the MK1500/2000Ds, but NOPB runs them long hood forward, which is why you cant see the short nose in the other photos.
Boise locomotive works builds the bodies and cabs for the Green Goat project, same basic design and look as the 1500 and 2000Ds.

Type MK1500 into your search engine…you can even find builders elevations of them, and a roster of which railroads own which units.

By the way, the MK1500D and the MK2000D are now the New EMD GP15 and GP20, built under license by Bosie and Watco for EMD.
CEFX bought an entire fleet of 1500 and 2000 hp units, and leases them to UP.
