New Rail Lines Using Interstate Rights-of-Way

Yes over the speed limit, yes, stops for food and bathrooms, yes, but no sitting around in restaurants.

I laughed when I read the 9 hour comment above - 63 mph average? Most of that route has higher speed limits than that. And then extra time for stops?

We drive a FORD FLEX LIMITED with a 390 hp twin turbo ecoboost engine, 0-60 in 5 seconds, 15 second 1/4 mile, cruises rather nicely about 80/85 mph.

Here where we live in Havre de Grace Maryland the default fast lane speed on Interstate 95 is 80 mph. You have to be going faster than that, or driving aggressively for the State Police to feel motivated to put their phone down and come after you.

We have done Disney World to Forest Hill, MD in just under 12 hrs…

This is what the Interstates were built for.

You have to drive that fast in a Flex so that nobody can see who you are. That’s about the uglies station wagon ever made.

You can call it ugly all you want. It is comfortable, fast, spacious, and has great utility. It has some of the highest customer satisfaction ratings in the industry.

I don’t buy cars to impress other people, I buy cars to meet my needs.

This is the second FLEX we have owned, and the first one saved the life of my family - I bought the second one as fast as I could.

In fact I hate ā€œslick lookingā€ cars where you sit on a boat cushion 6" above the highway.

When I was young I restored and hot rodded cars, sold MATCO tools, was the shop foreman in a BMW store, etc. And I choose cars that are comfortable, fast, safe, and reliable.

Drove these for years:

Do you know what it is?

Built this from the ground up when I was 19, and drove it for 8 years.

Call the FLEX ugly all you want, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Just judging cars on looks, this is the most beautiful car ever built.

Your constant posting of your cars on here proves otherwise. :man_shrugging:

Backshop, a Flex wouldn’t be my first choice, but in my opinion, there are a lot of uglier cars than a Flex

And having just acquired my Father’s 17 Traverse, with only 25k on the odometer, that thing has so many problems, and is so Not user friendly in other controls, that it’s my First, and will be my LAST Chevrolet product

I don’t know what you drive.

Rich I’m someone whose kidneys on a weekly basis decide that pushing out a stone in the 10mm or larger size is a normal routine for the last 24 years. It’s a medication side effect of my anti seizure medication. When your nephoroligist and urologist both go yeah we can’t do anything that would help you stop production of these and you’re allergic to the other medications that stopped the seizures butt cold.

Trust me a root canal is nothing compared to what this pain is like especially when the big boys decide to play. 10 to 13mm slight discomfort 14 to 18 mm I feel Very Much Alive as the late great Richard Marchinko said. 19 mm and larger I’m screaming for morphine while they’re pumping me full of lasix and iv fluids to push the thing out. Biggest one I’ve ever passed was 22mm. I spent a day on Dilaudid Island after that one.

That generation of traverse with the 3.6 needs to be scrapped at the junkyard. Then there’s me my wife wanted a new car what did she get a freaking Kia Stelos with the 2.0 that up to 23 was recalled for the piston rings breaking and leaving the cylinders. I’m not talking about getting stuck no these things are literally breaking up inside the cylinders and falling into the crankcases. Metal in the bearings and loss of compression well I’m screwed.

Yep, Kia’s. I love how some of them look. They must have some great designers. Engine designers… meh.

It’s only got four doors, should have at least six! Our family had a six door from 1965 - 69. It got a lot of attention. Engine was a 318, tranny was a 3 speed BW manual and it had aftermarket A/C for the road trips that involved crossing deserts.

You’re right, you don’t know what I drive. I don’t need to constantly talk about myself on the web. In one thread, we know Sheldon’s work history, cars owned, financial situation, etc. It’s stupid some of the things people post to strangers.

Yeah, you’re right, kind of makes one wonder why you post anything here at all

Doug

Those Areobus’s only had the 318’s for a year or two, then they had small block Chevy’s like the regular Marathons.

Our family owned four Checkers, three of which I owned at some point.

Two wagons and two sedans. Great cars, they all lasted over 250,000 miles.

How ridiculous! ORD isn’t great but manageable for most folks if they can simply read signs or adhere to the picture signs.

And we all know about the home restorations.

Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis is the all new, 2025 trains.com forum, and today we will be discussing its quirks and features:

:notes: "Some of these threads are not like the others,

Some of these threads are just not the same…"

At least the Iowa railroad museum controversy is de-escalating…

If you are taking medication for epileptic seizures, your driver’s license should be suspended. Competent physicians (should be a neurologist who specializes in treating epilepsy) should pull it

emphasized textCharley I undergo yearly medical evaluations by the Illinois Medical Review Board have 6 month visits with my neurological team and the rest of my care team. My drivers license is in good standing with the state of Illinois I’m allowed to drive by myself go anywhere I want when I want.

My last seizure of any kind was over a decade ago on valentine’s day. I’m under more scrutiny for my driving ability than a person with diabetes or a person with another medical condition. I’m actually the primary person in my family responsible for driving the longer trips why I enjoy them and unlike my wife I don’t get fatigued driving 3 hours.

I remember his wife saying that he lost his CDL, so who knows what’s going on. As far as the kidney stones, passing one that size without surgery or shockwave therapy to break them apart is near impossible. At least according to the Cleveland Clinic. I would take their word over a random person on the internet.
Kidney Stones: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

Maybe it’s time to get the thread back to trains and off of personalities.
