It would be nice to help restore this equipment. I like restoring things, but there isn’t a local rail museum to help.

Anything that will bring more tourist $$$ to this isolated Colorado town is a benefit.

This group has their act together. They’ve accomplished a lot in a short time.

Anybody know what the other unrestored pieces are?

This is splendid news! And the fact that it proactively unites successful heritage railroad units, the community of Silverton, and includes new storage and historic work structures is all the better. Hearty kudos to all involved!

As an aside, it couldn’t be more fitting a location to preserve and restore the truly blessed “temporary” movie prop wood and fiberglass 4-6-0 copy of RGS No.20. That little gem has had one charmed life, and I always delighted in seeing it find this and that often peculiar and bizarre home in Northern California after it was spun off by the movie studios. The day I found it stuck up on a hillside, under a roofed open air shed in the California Mother Lode, masquerading as an “Amador Central Railroad” locomotive was the day I nearly died laughing. It is very worthy of being returned to display status as the “Emma Sweeney.”

Think I might be in Silverton next summer to check things out. My last project of this type was FWWR #2248 (nee SP and Texas State, now Grapevine Heritage RR standard gauge ten wheeler) and its facilities, but sure do miss such in my retirement. Good luck guys and gals on a worthwhile project.

I think the Casey Jones is owned by the SJCHS and not the Durango group.

With all the griping that local businesses in Durango are doing over the RR facilites, this might ba a good chance to relocate the facilities in an open area outside Silverton. with the premise that NO new businesse or residential buildings are allowed to build nearby.
