As anyone seen these engines yet? I ran across a thread in another forum indicating the units had been released.
What I am particularly interested in is the CNR Green and Black passenger scheme. A perfect match for the Rapido coaches.
I assume feedback on these units will be good.
I have a number of the Intermountain F units and in my opinion they are the best running out there at present. I did hear a rumour that the drive train may have been upgraded on the FP9’s.
Another new release for the EMD F units is the new Stewart upgraded line which is slated for release soon as well.
I ordered 2 As and 2 Bs from Canadian Model Trains (CN zebra scheme) and they told me that they are very smooth runners. I assume that’s from first-hand experience, as the folks at CMT are very reliable sources, generally speaking. The zebras are due in January, so it’ll be awhile before I get to play with them.
I haven’t seen them yet.I do have a couple of the straight F7’s which are wonderfull runners.I don’t know how much tweeking or upgrading they would really need to do. I’ve got a couple A’s on order in the CPR script scheme and can hardly wait.
I saw an Intermountain CP FP9AB set operating for the first time tonight. They seemed fine and the owner was very happy with them. I recently bought a Proto 2000 CN F7AB set that is excellent, I think the external detail of the P2K is better than the Intermountain. Both makes have QSI decoders in both units and it is really fun to have stereo bell and horn.
From the photos I have seen, the only thing they did to their FP7 was move a porthole and add a louvre There is more to an FP9 than just that porthole and louvre.
I saw a set of the CN Proto F7’s and they look very detailed, unfortunately they do not match the Rapido CN coaches as they are in the freight colours and not the passenger colours.
Intermountain used the passenger Green, Black and Gold paint scheme as does Rapido, not to forget that the Intermountain units are FP units.
My point exactly, no more having to use freight engines as stand ins for the passenger engines.
Although True-line trains does have the passenger painted C-Liners in A units available and the B units are slated for release this fall I believe. I want to use the EMD F units. So now I have the model available and best of all it is from Intermountain.
Interesting that Athearn who has released many varioius versions of the CN in the Green livery including the passenger version in the blue box never had the passenger livery available in the Genesis line.
