I have seen some new reporting marks lately. They are still not listed in the various websites that list reporting marks (I tried NHRS, Trains, and TrainsCan). They are DBWX and LFPX. I suspect they are for BASF and Larsen Farms, respectively. Can anyone confirm this?
DBWX = DB Western, Inc – Texas (added 4/2005).
BASF would be DBCX.
I have LHTX for Larsen Farms; I suppose it’s plausible that LFPX would be some kind of special potato-service car, but it wouldn’t fit with the known listing syntax. What is the other information on the car bearing that mark?
The LFPX cars are former UP woodchip gondola. They are in the 800 series. I have seen some HJPX woodchip gondolas with tarps that have Larsen Farms stencilled on them.
In the safety tradition of “who will rid me of this troublesome priest”… I wonder exactly what is under those tarps when the Larsen cars are loaded. (Or what’s in the LFPX cars when loaded…)
I am puzzled by the quote. Can you enlighten me?
We can assume there are no sounds eminating from those cars?
Hmmmm, along with ‘tarps’ over the cars, wonder if they
have the 'shackle system inside ?[}:)][:D]
I’ve got a “feeler” out for LFPX–might get results in a week or less.
Didn’t take as long as I thoght–LFPX is Lane Forest Products, Inc. Probably nothing but woodchips in those cars.
Supposedly said by Henry II about Archbishop Thomas Becket. Supposedly as a result Becket was killed by followers of Henry II. Later Henry had to do penance and was scourged.
Enjoy

Ah…
Thank you!
I have also seen the LFPX cars with the Larsen Farms stencil - I just assumed it was the Larsen Farms reporting mark. Thanks for updating us.

I’ve seen those in the Lane Forest Products spur to be loaded - at least most of the loads are garden compost. (shredded and well aged tree trimmings/leaves/lawn clippings etc.)

Carl and Overmod, thanks. Some type of ground cover is my guess (which could be woodchips), they go to a place called Sierra Organics a few miles north of Bakersfield. Here is Lane’s website. http://www.laneforestproducts.com/.
Well, I have two more new reporting marks that I cannot find who they belong to.
I saw three former UP 147000 series woodchip gondolas with PFPX reporting marks today.
Also, I was looking at BNSF’s Southwest Operating Division map and saw MTHB on the line to York Canyon.
Neither reporting marks were listed at http://www.nakina.net/report.html or http://www.nrhs.com/reporting_marks/index.html (which was last updated 10/2001).
PFPX is the reporting mark for Calpac, L.L.C.
Couldn’t find the other one as a reporting mark–they must not own any equipment.
My favorite site for current reporting marks:
http://www.railinc.com/docs/UMLER_MailList.xls
It has a few drawbacks, in that it lists the owners of the cars, not necessarily the company to which the reporting mark is assigned. Foe example, reporting marks HS are shown as General Electric Rail Services Co., not the H&S Railroad.
I like the Nakina site when I’m going for historical information.
