Has anyone built this kit? What were you experiences with the instructions? It seems that Walthers spent alot of time in designing this structure, but little if any on the instructions.
I just finished the main building. The instructions are extremely sparse. One page of promotional blurb and three pages of pictures with very little text. That said: its really just a series of boxes and pretty easy to build. I built a cut down version as specified for the Virginian and had to make a few changes and cuts etc. Building the full size version should be easier. It pretty much goes like this.
a) Build everything except for the roof portions
b) Paint and weather
c) Paint and install windows. These were a challenge to figure out how to paint. They are embossed plastic and there are about 30 of them. Rather than trying to paint each frame (and taking 10 hours), I went to Staples, got and old fashioned black stamp pad and “stamped” black paint on each one.
d) Paint the roofs, install and weather
If you search the MR Videos they built this and you can find it in part 13 and 15 of the Virginian series. It gives a good visual on some of the steps.

Steve has laid out a good way proceed with the construction. When I built mine I used a black Magic Marker to do the mullions in the windows. A little tedious but it was easier than painting. Make sure that you don’t remove any parts from the sprues until you have identified them. The pictorial “directions” make use of these numbers rather than text.

Call me crazy but I built it and found it quite straight forward. I used to build 72nd scale model air planes as a kid and maybe that helps. That being said I could never build a model car without wrecking it regardless of instructions.[^o)]
I also found building it was rather straight forward.
