after seeing the video of the BNSF intermodal getting hit by a mudslide I understand why BNSF does not allow passenger carrying trains for 48 hours afterward.

Due to another mudslide north of Seattle, BNSF Railway has placed a moratorium on rail traffic between Seattle and Everett, WA through Tuesday, Dec. 25.
The following Amtrak services are affected:
Hard surfaces are compromising our ground water in urban areas all over the country. Most places don’t have the severe and repeated mud slides you are having but there are a lot of other problems associated with all of the places we have paved over.
Sub surface drainage is the answer. But the water needs to be directed to places where it can recharge the aquifer and not just sent down a river.

Sounder Northline service has been canceled through Wednesday morning due to slope instability on the north corridor. Sounder North service for Wednesday afternoon and the rest of the week will be decided Wednesday morning as more definitive information becomes available. |
