Aiken Railway is scheduled to begin operations Dec 1, 2012. Its’ power will be a lone SW1500 with plans to acquire two GP30u’s in 2013. Aiken Railway is taking over territory currently serviced by Norfolk Southern’s P22 (Aiken Local) using segments of the SA line and the AB line in and around the lovely city of Aiken, South Carolina.
A photo of the SW1500 is on railpictures.net. Offset headlights?
SW1500 LTEX 1543 made its’ first switching move as Aiken Railway’s sole power Dec. 3.
Not to stir up bad memories, but just for information; The Aiken Local (NS P22) [and before that Southern Railway trains #21 and #22] was the train which was parked on the Graniteville Company mill spur track back in January 2005 which was struck by the northbound thru freight causing a derailment and release of chlorine gas resulting in evacuation of Graniteville, SC and the eventual clossure of the mill.
