Spain (and much of Europe and Asia) is so far ahead of American when it comes to passenger rail service.
To bad American politicians are so backwards in their thinking about transportation.I’ll bet the Koch Brothers are influencing these polititians so they could sell fore oil based product, mainly fuel.
Well, the governments of those countries heavily subsidise the rail system.

The Spanish HSR trains are just wonderful and what a shame we have to put up with our pathetic Amtrak system. This is not a slam to Amtrak workers or the trains, just a sad note on our vastly underfunded Amtrak, a GREAT way to travel!
I worked on the development of the first Talgo train in 1947-8 in the ACF plant Wilmington, Del. The Spanish gov.sent 2 engineers from Spain to work with engineers.ACF built 2 trains, 1 was sent to Spain and the other sent around USA to try to interest our RRs but only New- Haven,Hartford showed some interest. Cars 20 ft long piggy on each other so tracks could have smaller radius.cars were aluminum.
