New Spectrum C&O H4

Just got it from train world, unpacked it carefully, made the teather connection and turned up the juice.Click click thump, click click thump.Side rods seem to be binding on both sets of drivers and lifting on driver completly off the rails with every revolution.I’m not messing with this so it’s gotta go back. What a pain.

Thats too bad, especially for a train with a retail price of $500.

Now, doncha wish you bought it from your LHS?

Hum, you must have got mine! I have had to fix all my steam power but one, knock on wood.

Cuda Ken.

A retail price that means nothing since they can be bought all over, including lots of brick and mortar stores, for less than $300.

I will be buying at least one of the non sound versions, the two shops near hear with good Bachmann prices have those for about $230 - retail price $375.00

And, as has been repeated over and over, Bachmann or the dealer will make it right - by replacing it.

Unfortunately my hobby shop doesn’t carry Bachmann, so I’m stuck with the less than reputable internet dealers. No fault to Bachmann, I love the company and their Spectrum line of engines.

Are there any videos of this engine on youtube?

It sorta is my L.H.S.Bout 20 miles or so.You must be affiliated with one I suppose.

Contact Star Hobby in Annapolis, MD or Peach Creek Shops in Laurel, MD (www.peachcreekshops.com) for your Bachmann needs. They are both very reputable and will happily supply you by mail. They also have the lowest Bachmann prices around.

Few links I found.

I just picked up one of these at Peach Creek Shops yesterday and it is great. Runs smooth and looks good.

It will look great double headed with my other C&O 2-6-6-2, the older Bachmann H5 model.

All HO locomotives with onboard sound drive me crazy in minutes.

UPDATE:

Just got my hands on another one of these, actually belongs to a friend, and out of the box it had a problem like cold steal discribes above.

A quick examination revealed the main rods where hitting the crank pins on each revolution and the crosshead giudes where bent inward. After re-aligning the crosshead guides, all is well no more rods hitting crank pins.

Seems this is a packaging issue, not a production issue. the new packaging seems to be pressing on these parts and getting them out of alignment.

So, for thosewith some skills, knowing this you may avoid having to send one of these back for this minor and easily fixed issue.

Thanks for the info Sheldon.
