A couple more questions. Does anyone know if there are certain requirements for a town to get an Amtrak stop, such as population or distance from other stops? Are any Amtrak stations owned by Amtrak or are they all leased? What are the job duties of a caretaker, when there is no agent?
At this point, I am imagine Amtrak is more concerned about keeping the stops they already have than adding new ones.
Amtrak (provided the Bush administration doesn’t kill it) is supposed to add a new stop for the Empire Builder in 2006 at Leavenworth, Washington.
