Why wasn’t a photo of one of the "street cars " shown or taken, rding the rails, instead of a construction photo of workers building the track? It would have created a more “true rail fan / street car fan” interest.
Another one, bought and paid for by the American taxpayer, who will never use it, to be used by those who didn’t pay for it.
What happens when Bush’s hurricane machine is fired up again? What if he decides this year to aim it at New Orleans one more time instead of New York and New Jersey? Is this welfare project waterproof? Almost all of New Orleans sits on the bottom of the barge turning basin for the Mississippi River.
Looking forward to my first-ever trip to the Big Easy later this spring. Can’t wait to ride this and other lines, and take in some great jazz and N’awlins cuisine, too.
Were some of the new cars built at Gomaco in Ida Grove, Iowa?
That’s cool. Now one will be able to avoid using the taxis, that charge outrageous prices, from Union Station. BTW: show your Medicare card for a discount on the NOL trolleys. Dunno why they selected Medicare, but it works.
Only a few blocks on Howard Ave. would bring the Loyola line to Lee Circle and the St. Charles line. However, seeing the cost estimate overrun on Loyola Ave. it would upset the financial well-being of the city and state.
there is an unused double track stub leading from jackson (?) circle on the st. charles line to within 2 or 3 blocks of the union station. has this been / will this be connected to the end of the new Loyola line?
Just 4 more blocks on Howard Avenue would bring the Loyola line to Lee Circle and a connection with St. Charles without going all the way downtown. Some of the track is already there.
Good news for urban rail transportation and the City of New Orleans.
$53,000,000 for 1/8 of a mile?!!! Doesn’t anyone else see something criminal in that?
Just in time for the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras! Let’s hope Cincinnati can do the same for the All-star baseball game in 2015.
