New stuff from the train show!

I had a good day at Saturday’s train show in Decatur, and came out with some pretty good deals.[:D] I don’t have pictures yet, but I will be sure to put some up.

The first thing is a brass HO C-630 by Alco/KMT, which I got for $95. It was practically new in the box and in very good condition, and the last owner put new Reboxx foam in the box. There is some old deteriorated foam stuck to the back, but I think I can get it cleaned off. It runs smooth, but it’s extremely noisy because of the sloppy universals, tower gearing, and overall construction (acts like an amplifier for any and all noises). The motor isn’t all that quiet, but it’s actually very well made and runs great after a little clean-up and tuning.[:D]

The next thing is a set of 3 new 25’ Ore car kits by MDC. They’ve never been out of the box as far as I can tell, and I got all 3 for $20.[:D]

The last thing is a new in the box Athearn stock car kit. It was only $6.

The show didn’t have quite as many good deals as usual, but I still think I did pretty well.[:D]

Alright, here are the pictures I promised![:D]

The ALCO by Alco. I now have the thing fully cleaned and relubricated, and it’s running pretty well! I ordered some NWSL universals to replace the stock parts that are in there now. I’m hoping they’ll work smoother and, most importantly, quieter than the originals, which are some of the sloppiest I’ve ever dealt with.

The three MDC ore cars and Athearn stock car, all of which I built today. I gave them all Kadee #5 couplers and Intermountain 33" metal wheels, so they’re ready for service![:D]

I’ll have a review of the C-630 up pretty shortly, for those who are interested.[:D]

Nice!!

The local swap meet is in about eight days and I’ve already broke open the piggy bank (Musician’s soup till July-ketchup packs from the local choke & puke in boiling water-tomato soup a.k.a musicians soup). Heh heh…

Enjoy

Andrew

Wow!

Great deal on the ore cars and they look great.

You were smart to replace the Kadee couplers and Intermountain wheelsets. I do the same thing.
