Michaels Craft Store has a new style of bird houses , i bought 3 yesterday . 1 looks like a barn and the other looks like a 2 story house with a flat roof , after i get them painted i’ll try and post them , i’m going to go get a few more by the end of the week , they are on special , they were 6.95 , but on sale 4.95 , I can’t build them for that price and they make nice building for the out side lay out. Hi Kim
Was the Skippy you had cooked with rosemary and garlic?? the secret with Skippy is all in the cooking it has to be kept moist very little in the way of fat in it.
Bird houses on the railway not sure about that the swallows and Blue tits might move in and start foraging in the track
better to keep the birds in the trees and under the eaves where they belong
Nothing wrong with shooting birds as long as they are for the cooking pot
regards John
That’s right John, if it’s for the pot then in my book it’s ok to hunt/shoot it. Skippy was cooked as a steak but was well basted, not bad at all to be honest but about the price of aberdeen angus - guess which one gets my vote!!
Cheers,
Kim
Ahhh…excuse me gents, but wasn’t Skippy a Aussie TV show with a kangaroo?
Shhesh whats next? Gentle Ben Burgers? Filet of Flipper ?
Heck, I’d buy it.
That’s right Vic, kangaroo. Big business in Aussie land, our local butcher stocks it.
Hi Vic
There is even talk in some circles of farming them for the table like is done with Deer
One of SWMBO’s older cook books has a recipe or two for Galah yes thats the pink and grey bird some people keep in a cage.
But I will not be trying it I dont think it legal to shoot those.
regards John
Those are great bird houses. I saw some just yesterday at Meijer (kind of like WalMart). They are plastic but they looked really nice. Something to keep an eye out for.

Ben;
I really like the looks of the two story house, but it’s just too danged short! Way too far out of scale, even for a “non-scaler” like me. Yes, I have a bunch of them myself. Yes I have one of the round bird houses and am planning on making a water tower out of it. but just not enough time in the day to do everything I would like to. I get allocated only one weekend a month to build on the GRR, and one hour each weekend to run the GRR. Have a rather large list of tasks to accomplish before we have the wedding in the back yard late this September. Soldering copper pipe into “anti” bird houses, to keep the birds (and other rodents) out of the vegetable garden, Archways to build for the wedding couple walk through and stand under, (need enough time for the roses to grow up and over) sod to replace etc., etc., etc. I’ll be glad when October gets here and I can get back to doing MY things!!!
