As some of you know, I’m the current Northeast Rep of the 41 year old Teen Association of Model Railroaders.This is a group that was established for young railfans and model railroaders ( and Train Simers! ). Just today, we officialized Trial Memberships, a first for the TAMR. I trial membership is a free 3 - month membership that includes:
() 3 issues of our monthly publication, The Hotbox
() 1 issue of your appropriate region’s quarterly newsletter
() Option to participate in the group with all priveleges of a standard member for the duration of your membership.
When you recieve your second Hotbox, you will get a notification with the option to join the TAMR as a regular member. What is a regular member? You get all the same things as a trial member except 11 issues of the Hotbox, a copy of the yearly Member Directory, and four issues of your region’s newsletter.
When I joined the TAMR, it wasn’t very long before I felt very conected to the railfanning comunity, and even more I felt understood. I was expected to act like a teen, not like a mature adult. I never get looked down upon as teen.
Another bonus is the fact that we hold a yearly photo contest, first place prize being $50. 1st through 5th placers get their photo published in Model Railroad News magazine. I know that there are many excellent photographers here.
The cost for full membership is a small 15 dollars per year. That’s about half as much as TrainOrders.com!
