New thoughts on large scale indoor, now i'm tossing track plan ideas around

This is a follow up to my posting of last Friday. In between work this weekend I begain to explore layout design elements for a large scale indoor SP themed branchline layout. Here’s where i’m at:

U-shaped-point-to-point, min. radius 10ft., min turnout radius 6, code 148 rail, stagging yard located along aisle side, single track with sidings and industry located on the tails only , nothing fancy or complicated. Keep it simple. Room entrance via the area between the tails, no duckunders, layout would fit against three walls the third leg would extend out to create an access aisle for the stagging yard on one side, the second tail on the other side with a divider seperating the two .

Scenery would represent the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in No. Ca, complete with grasslands. Produce, timber, grain, rice, barley, packing houses and associated operations would be the primary traffic. Time depicted is dependent on available equiptment and thus more research is required before I get serious about making a full commitment…

I’ve got 70X25 available to work with and one point is obvious, everything is HUGE and space consuming
I have no plan worthy of posting, just testing the waters… thoughts/comments/ideas appreciated.

10’ radius equals 20’ diameter, that really huge, usually needed only if your planning to use a DASH9 ! May I suggest 10’ or 12’ Diameter as a minimum, good radius for GP’s and the like.

If you have the 2004 MR Track Planning special issue, check out the Domino layouts by David Barrow, page 24 fig 5 shows a C (U) shaped plan that might be adaptable to G scale space you describe.

At the least its a place to start.

I demand you stop this large scale nonsense.

You may get me interested in large scale indoors, and I don’t need that in my life right now.

Hey these aren’t no girly -man toys. [;)]
I love seeing 3 22lb engines working to pull a 180lb train.
Are you going to use body mounted kadee’s ? #820s or 830?
I’d like to see a plan of your basement before you design the track plan.
If you have a walkout basement you can let those trains run outside and stretch their legs.[:p][^]

Same here, I might be able to whip out some quick Cadd diagrams based on standard sectional track.
