New to the forum, collecting early postwar

Hey guys,

I’m new on here and have been collecting for about a year now.

What would you guys consider the holy grail of the postwar era??

Mike

Each individual has to decide what is of interest. There is no universal “Holy Grail”.

The big icon would be the Santa Fe F3 … not something I want … but it is probably a model any model railroader in any gauge would smile and nod in approval.

Yes I think you would find a Santa Fe F3 in almost everyone’s collection.

As a wee lad I always liked the NYC F3s, and did get a set for Christmas in 1951. So that’s my favorite but there is so much to choose from just buy what you like but do some research on Lionel before you start. Not everything with Lionel on it would be called “collectable”.

Surely a 773,1950 model would be a prize in the collection. Some of the boxcars are rare and very expensive as are some other cars.

F3, 773, GG1, S2

I’d vote for a boxed 6044-1X McCall’s-Nestle’s scout boxcar.

[#welcome] aboard!

You know a Flyer guy can’t resist…Anything from the mid 1920’s would be nice. These sets could represent the earlier period of the hobby.
