New to the Forum

Hi,

I’m new to this forum and new-ish to model railroading. I’m “N”-ing the “Feather River Route”, freelanced from down-under. I’ve built my benches, bought 90% of the infrastruture needed and am about to start laying track. I have an around the walls (future layout) measuring roughly 10’ x 14’ . I have bought Kato and Atlas locos, and a mixture of several brands of rolling stock. I’ve chosen to go DCC and have invested in NCE equipment.

I live in Moruya, a small coastal/country town in New South Wales, OZ. I’m also about 200 kms from my nearest (not so) local hobby store, and I have been relying on purchases from the USofA for just about everything N I have presently.

I look forward to being a member of this forum and the help I hope it can give me. You never know, in the future I may be able to contribute something too.

Hello Rob, Welcome to the forum. There are a great bunch of people here, I have gotten some great help from the people here. Some times I feel like I am asking dumb questions or repeating questions that have been covered a thousand times. But I ask anyway and I just ignore the the responses from the guys I seem to be bothering, 99.999% of the time I get the help I need. Good luck to you and welcome from me.

Thayne.

Feather River in N scale? sounds delicious. I’m launched into something similar myself. Steam era Southern Pacific and ATSF in N scale.

Thanks for the welcome gents, its much appreciated.

I have no doubt you’ll get some dumb questions from me, but at the age of 60 and having been through life’s wringer…I dont care.

Once again, thank you.

Yes, welcome Rob. Everything everyone else has said so far. I’ve gone from a rank beginner to a “becoming competent” layout builder thanks to the wonderful guys n’ gals here. I like it when I can return the favor to folks newer to the hobby. I have relatives down under that I really would like to visit some day!

Were you by any chance at the Sacramento California National NMR Convention this summer? I rode a bus through the Feather River Canyon and drove a GP9 at Portola. Donner Pass is impressive and the bridges are a modeler’s dream!

Enjoy!

Jim

Welcome to the Forums, you will really enjoy this place.

Wow, the Feather River in N-scale sounds like a wonderful idea. Several years ago I went there on a rail-fanning trip and climbed down a “smallish” embankment to take photos of the infamous Keddie Wye. What a great scene and I’m looking forward to seeing photos of your layout.

Thanks for writing,

Wayne

Well, I think I will officially name you DU-ROB. That is Down Under Rob as we have a Rob here that has been with us quite a spell now.

So if you don’t mind. DU-Rob, I would like to welcome you to the forum and congratulate you on your choice of forums and areas to model.

I have been a fan of the Western Pacific for nie-on sixty years. Yes that is 60.

The difference between us is mainly scale, I’m in the "HO"norable scale and I see you are in the "N"egative scale, or "N"significant scale. But that’s OK too. Each to their own desires.

I didn’t feel I had room for the Keddie Wye on my layout which is 17’ x 13’ so my main features is the Honeymoon Tunnels. But in “N” you should do fine.

I’m 71 and still building so I expect to see great things from you as I believe you are somewhat my Junior when it comes to birthdays.

Great to have you on board. We do have a lot of fun and teasing here.

GET USED TO IT, DU-ROB, Get used to it… [(-D][swg][(-D]

It sure sounds better than OZ-Rob. Lol. Doesn’ it ???

Johnboy out…for a while
