So I have always wanted to have a fixed train setup and now I have the chance. However I am getting overwhelmed with the diversity since I am a the type that like to know what I am doing. I got a Lionel O starter set and I love it. Here is where I am at.
So I am about finished building a table 8x12, been working on a layout so I am close there. I will be using Fast Track and zone power. I got some loops, train yard and elevations in the plan. I am not looking at the radio control setup I like the feel of the old school stuff. I grabbed some books that show wiring and how to build various things.
I am having trouble with understanding the engines from non Lionel manufactures. First off can I use non Lionel on the setup I am looking at? I don’t want to post a link (not sure of the rules) but there is this Norfolk Southern GP9 Diesel Locomotive (BAC21415) and a switcher (BAC21611) that I really like the look. Its a “Williams by Bachmann Train” , don’t get me wrong I like Lionel ones to but they usually say Legacy Control or (Transformer controlled forward, neutral, and reverse operations). Which is something I can understand.
Its seams that a lot of the trains over $200 besides out of my range seam to use the radio computer controls. So do these and the ones that don’t say TMCC work the way my PA starter does? Also I have tried to dig into this “Williams by Bachmann” company to find a manual so I did not have to ask and came up empty. Is this company good and is there a web site?
Sorry for the long message and thanks.
