Hi Harry

Looking back at your previous posts, it seems you have been contemplating this for a couple of years now. If you take your time and work methodically, there is nothing that is overly difficult in this hobby. Have you chosen a track plan or design for you layout yet?

No it’s not that hard at all. I was a complete newbie (2 years ago), and I started a big layout with DCC (NCE PHP). I learned a lot from getting help on this site, as well as help at my local hobby shop.

There are plenty of experts here willing to help new guys out.

Just go for it, and have fun!

DCC is more easy than DC. You have not to worry about blocks. You need only two wires to the tracks.

Harry,

[#welcome] to the world´s most exciting hobby and to this forum!

Please don´t hesitate to ask questions - there are plenty of folks around in this forum who will be glad to help you getting a good start in the hobby. Don´t let the “expert talk” intimidate you, there is always a simple answer available.

DCC is not difficult to install and operate - basically, all you need is to attach two feeder wires to the track to get it up and running. It makes wiring a layout a lot easier, as you don´t have to worry about blocks and sections. With DCC, you control your locos with a digital command signal to the address of your loco, whereas with DC you control the power fed to your tracks, which needs to be routed to the proper track.

Your LHS will help find the right system and provide you with the knowledge you need to acquire!

Enjoy!
