Railpictures.net has photos of both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific locomotives on trains in the USA.

Both alone and in consist with BNSF locomotives.

Canadian engines are very common in the USA, I run CN and CP engines quite often. I have had BC Rail engines also. We sometimes get TFM engines from Mexico , TFM is part of Kansa City Southern. You can pretty much mix and match any road name and be prototypical. Atlas, Kato, Walthers, Bowser all make great equipment. You might want to check out the Model Railroader Forum which is Trains sister publication. Cheers.

North American railroads (Canada, U.S.A. and Mexico) freely exchange rolling stock and locomotives. Canadian National now owns the former Illinois Central, and Canadian Pacific owns some of the former U.S. roads. Union Pacific interchanges traffic with Mexico and is part owner of Ferromex, one of the railroads of Mexico, and Kansas City Southern owns TFM.

Kato, Atlas, Bachmann, Bowser, and Walthers locomotives are all good choices, both DC and DCC, with or without sound.
