Well I finally did it. Only about 6 months after I originally planned on it. After not seeing it under the Christmas tree,(at least she got me a DCC engine) I bought my first DCC system the day after. Unfortunately I was out of town when it came in but I finally got around to installing it last night. OH MY GOSH!!! Now I know what I have been missing. Already looking at converting another DC engine over, for a total of three. I got the NCE starter set. Next up, gotta find some speakers.
I can’t explain it, but even my cars seem to run better. I have played with it for two nights now and have pushed and pulled every car through every turnout with no derailments. Before, my lesser quality cars (2 in particular over 20 years old) sometimes gave me trouble. Any ideas?? Maybe a slower better control through the turnouts???
Nah, before all the gremlins had to mess with were the rolling stock. Now they’ve got a whole new world of electroinics to ____ up.
I fully agree with you. I was a little scared of DCC at first, but when I finally got it, I kicked myself for not trying it earlier.
I can’t explain the car performance, though. As I’m sure you know, DCC makes no difference to the cars.
However, if you were running so called dual-mode locos before, you probably are seeing smoother loco performance. Jerky locos cause all kinds of problems, from derailing to uncoupling.
Or maybe Murphy is still in Florida for the winter and will be coming back soon…
Yeah, don’t get the car thing either, but I’m happy. I was afraid either I was going to have to adjust the turnouts or play with the cars. Might still have to. Most, but not all of my cars are up to NMRA standards. I have not touched the track, its just like it come out of the box. The engines are soooo much smoother, not jerky at all. Still its going to take some getting used to the momentum feature, but I like it. My son even got involved with me tonight (he’s lost interest), so maybe this will get him back involved.
Welcome to DCC! I have an NCE system too.
For speakers Tony’s Train Exchange has good offerings.

Also, these guys claim to have mastered the apparently difficult task of making ‘ported’ speakers to enhance the base tones. Might be worth a try.
