Just wanted to throw these out at ya. Finally broke 1000 hits on my web site. Not bad for a free site with no advertiseing. Enjoy!
cool
20 x 20…you have a plan yet?
Nothing etched in hard drive space yet. I want to run 2 or 3 mainlines and 2 or 3 switchers at the same time. Still working on it. I know I AM going to put one of the new Walthers 130’ turntables on it.
what about climate control???
Working on that! It’s 110 degrees out there today.[V]. Putting some attick vents in the top to move the air. Will be putting heat and AC and dehumidifier in soon.Going to line the inside with foam board when I can afford it. One thing that works good is putting a sprinkler on low on the roof. Cools it off avout 25 degrees in 2 min.
110 DEGREES! Jeesh, I would get sick almost instantly in that heat. Good luck with the project.
The bugs bother me more than the heat. I got some Sevin liquid and mix it twice as strong and sprayed the foundation inside and out. Worked good. Haven’t seen a bug in two weeks!
My concern for climate control goes beyond personal comfort. For the layout you need to control heat and humidity for the sake of the benchwork, trackwork and locos. Insulated air conditioning is highly recomended.
One step ahead of you. Nothings getting done on the permanent layout untill the climate conserns are solved. I set up a 4 by 8 temp layout with some old code 100 I had just to watch my trains run. Is there a problem with using that 5 eigths inch particle board? Everyone seems to be using plywood, but I don’t like the noise you get from plywood. I’m going to go over kill on the bench work so I wouldn’t see warpage being a problem?
Looking good loathar! Love that web site too.
There’s nothing like the summers down here is there? I’m ready for it to cool off, getting tired of standing in a hot, humid hangar every day! I can feel for you in dealing with the heat.
Tom, lookin’ good…keep us posted!
5/*8" particle board should be rigid enough. As I remember, years ago the knock on particle board was that it was not stiff enough and would sag between joists. If it should show signs of sagging you could always brace it underneath with an “L girder” cross brace and screw the bench top into the girder to flatten it out.
Keep the bugs down and you take in lots of liquids in that heat and I know humidity!

Nice website!!! [:)]
I need a building like that!!! Having it in the basement is fine, but I would love to be able to actually get out of the house and in my “Train Operations Space”, no phone, no TV, no GF/Wife to ask me to open a bottle or the kids messing with it when I am not around. Only would aloow man’s bestfriend the dog [;)]
I let my dog and cat in when I’m in there. They stand guard at the door and eat any bugs that try to come in the crack in the door!!! COOL pets!!! It cools off in the evening. 75 degrees tonight. (down from 110 today) Nice place to crank up the stereo and be alone with my hobby!!![8D][8D][8D]
