Cause I am shortly moving from S. Florida to E. Texas I decided to hop on I95 & do the 350 miles each way to finally see this place since it is now a far shorter journey then it would be from Texas [:I]
If Daggett is a 4 star attraction then I would give this 2 stars as the volume is less & the speed is slower. [:o)]
Some of the interesting things I saw was 2 CSX trains being powered only with UPRR locos. That made me feel like I was in California all over again. I saw the NE Tropicana juice train on its way back south. I saw A/trak also going southward from the NE. I saw the CSX using a lowly switch engine in over the road service. I only saw only 1 train using BNSF power. [:p]
Hopefully all you CSX fans out there enjoy all those pix of your favorite RR at work.[8D]

I enjoyed my visit to Folkston. I heard that one reason I saw as much traffic as I did was due to some bottleneck or another which had just re-opened, but it was still nice seeing the number of trains I did in a couple of hours.
It may not have the most traffic, but it’s still a pleasant place to watch the parade that does go by.
I agree especially when the T/storm hit. The chairs was also a nice touch. I guess I am somewhat jaded after my S. California experiences. I spent 7 hours there over 2 days & saw 20 CSX + the 1 A/trak so that is a average of 3 per hour. Once in Daggett I saw 17 in a hour between BNSF & UPRR. That was really exciting. Somebody told me the are wi-fiing the place so you will be able to transmit from there soon. Thanks for the kudos on the pix[:p]
Thanks for the photos. I’ve always wondered what the setup looked like at Folkston Funnel because I’ve heard so much about it, and wondered how it compared to Rochelle here in the Chicago area.
But why did they install those two street signs in the “firing line” between the tracks and a photographers’ platform?
Nice pics. My favorite thing about Folkston, besides the trains, is that it is a great place to capture some good pics even if the weather won’t work with ya’ ( as some of your pics demonstrated) [:D]
Traffic safety notwithstanding - I’ll bet if someone pointed that out to the city leaders (who definitely support the platform) arrangements could be made to change things.
nice photos I always enjoy a nice rain to cool things down in Folkston. Lets just hope its busy there Sat-Tues unlike last time in September I only saw 34 trains in 3 days there that day.
