[:0] OMG. EEEYYEWWWW
Nowhere near the original. The other heritage units were at least partially close to the originals. This one isn’t even close.
I know I know UP did it for legal reasons. BUT STILL…
Take care,
Russell
Well now I have no hope at all for the remaining units.[B)][banghead][banghead][banghead]
I still think the SD70ACe would look good in BNSF paint.
Allan.
Hmmm…doesn’t look like a John Deere loco to me…Did Katy ever run with red?
I thought the original was red. Of course there isn’t an original, since they never owned any SD70ACe s. I like it anyways, nice color, like a sports car.

Hey folks, it is different than anything out on the rails right now, it is controversial, it is reasonably good looking and we are talking about it…when was the last time you saw a conversation thread about the NS units, the “old” UP units, etc. on this site? Other than the new BNSF H4 scheme and some conversation about washing older units, I can’t remember any such conversation.
With all due respect to the late Katy “President and Traveling Freight Agent” John W. Barriger, YES - the KATY did have red units. The color of the units matched the color of the ink on the railroad’s financial statements. Not until the unit coal trains began arriving did the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad Company know any real prosperity in the post-WW2 era.
What did the “original” look like?- (I have no idea but this one isn’t a bad looking unit-at least they did something))
Nice looking unit. Thanks for the heads up ans sharing the picture.
Looks good to me…
“thumbs up!”

Ya know, actually that’s not all that bad. It ain’t great, but this is the first of the bunch that I’d actually like to have a model of. I never knew the Katy had a red scheme though, so it is a Kind of a shock…
Oh well. At least the WSOR’s paint shop is getting some free publicity.
Noah
Well any who some people dont like the new loco but I think it looks pretty cool execpt the color doesn’t look all that great. But it was a great thing to get something that big get done here in wisconsin oh yeah will that loco be rollin though the South eastern part of the state before it goes to. Omaha Neb. [4:-)][4:-)]
Now that I had time to think about it. That red would look realy good on ALL of UPRR Locomotives across their system…I like this one.
Allan.
I’m sorry, but that paint scheme is junk. The colors are very bright but the front railroad-crossing-gate stripes look real tacky. And the star on the front? I don’t know whether they had a star right smack on the nose of an engine.
Now I know the MKT had red engines, like on the “Texas Special” trains, but that was an extremely different shade of red.
Did any freight engines have red schemes? Yes, they did. There were solid red GP38s with white “MKT” letters.
Still, they could have done better. Paint one up in the green and yellow scheme with a green and yellow striped cab and nose and that’ll get people’s attention!!
And, don’t plaster “Union Pacific” EVERYWHERE. A small logo on the rear of the engine’s enough. They should keep it as original as possible.
A green and yellow loco now that’s funny and sure just plaster. The Green bay packers all over and put number 4 on it But any who like I said that’s about the funniest thing I have heard all day [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]
Ive never seen Katy’s scheme, but it looks good to me. Of course when I see the old one Ill probably change my mind, but…
There are some red ones here

It’s funny that everyone i saying they never knew the katy to have red engines… I never knew to have anything but red engines until I read the article accompanying that photo. I like the look of UP’s heritage schemes. At least they’re taking the opposite approach to BNSF who is forgetting it’s past and seems to be distancing itself from it. I applaud UP for doing something different.
You also have to take in account and understand that most company’s have a job to do. Running a Railroad is more important than paint scheme’s. [:)] Allan.
