New Year Model Railroading Resolutions

So what is your MRR resolution for the new year?

I have a section on my climbing loop that needs the berm done and painted and I need finish a few sections of ballasting. Once those small projects are done I want start going back and super detailing some of my landscaping/ fix a few of my oopsies.

In sync with my move to college this coming summer, to complete the BWTC as best as I can with the given time constraints, to pick a prototype for the next layout with track by track information, and to model it with as accurate information as I have at my disposal. The Big one for the next layout is to BUILD GOOD BENCHWORK AND TRACKWORK!!!

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year! Or is it the other way around?

NONE Based on past history my resolutions aren’t worth the paper they are written on

Merrry Christmas to all

Bob

To stop using matte medium.

It is 4 times the cost of white glue and harder to remove than white glue.

And dat’s the truth !

Model Railroad Resoutions for 2012

  1. Reduce my RR budget by 50%. I intend to do this by focusing on only items I need, or are at least for railroads that I intend to model and not impulse or bargan buying. (Same as last year - try again)

  2. Reduce my surplus inventory, by selling off / giving away projects I no longer intend to complet, by completing re-sale projects, selling duplicates, etc.(same as last year).

  3. Reduce the amount of time I spend on the forum while at the same time making the posts I put on the forum more meaningful. (This is the same as last two years - which I have acutally kept to some degree).

  4. Complete two of the NMRA achievment program awards.

  5. Get an initial layout design completed for the Pueblo & Arkansas River Valley RR.

  6. Run a 1969 combined Super Chief / El Capitan train on Silly Saturday at GFSM.

  7. Win an award at the Santa Fe Modeler’s Convention in Texas.

  8. Complete a “Christmas” train for next year.

  9. Help children complete Youth in Model Railroading modules, and use it to start a Kansas Division of the organization.

To actually get off my butt and start my benchwork . I have been collecting for too long . RON

The tracks come to a sudden halt on both ends where the yards need to be. This has gone on far too long. So to mimic the slogan from MR’s DVD series …

I shall design the yards I shall plan the yards and yes darn it, I shall BUILD the yards. I just know it!

I might even wire them!

Dave Nelson

To try to exercise patience and do the job correctly whatever it is. Too often I’ve been the poster child for “There’s never time to do it right, There’s always time to do it twice.” J.R.

Yeah - get off my butt as well and start doing some modelling instead of too much browsing the Internet.

Dennis

  1. Rent a dumpster.

  2. Throw everything out of the garage that I have been saving because “I might need it some day” (to quote my depression era parents).

  3. Design a plan of attack i.e. wiring the room first, installing lighting, fixing the floor…

  4. MAYBE ACTUALLY STARTING TO DO SOMETHING in the way of layout construction!

1, 2 and 3 will be easy. I will have to practise kicking myself in the butt for #4.

Wish me luck!

Dave

STOP PROCRASTINATING! I need to start ballasting track and building mountains!

Play with trains more!

Earn money to buy more trains (Specifically DCC equipment)

Have fun doing it, know when to walk away. (I’ve saved a few locomotives by learning this)

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and have a Happy New Year!

Acela

Well not that I believe in resolutions or anything, but mine is to crack down and start planning a serious layout, not change my mind every time I see something I like.

Coincedently the train store (hobby shop exclusively model trains, Z-G ‘specializing’ in HO and N) has a bunch of clinics coming up next month, one of which is styrene structure building kits. I noticed next, er, this months issue of MR has an article about styrene scratch building. I think the universe is trying to tell me something.

Not that i believe in that sort of thing…

I have limited room (either HO shelf or N-on-a-door)

I like N for it’s compact detailing

I like HO for it’s sound

I like N for the big scenery ratio

I like HO for it’s higher level of detail

I do like the modern era (70’s and 80’s) most, but I can’t model by locomotive era. I like a good ole GP7 as much as a 70ACe.

I like the smaller railroads, like short lines, but I also like the diversity and quantity of larger railroads.

It’s interesting cruising around these forums that the main piece of good advice offered to newcomers to this hobby, is research, research research!! The trouble is guys that I’ve been using the research excuse not to start actually build a layout, ( glad to see I’m not the only one who procrastinates BUT!!!). Hope to have something worth while to show you this time next year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year. [:D][:D][8D]

Cheers, The Bear.

To improve the quality of my rolling stock with detail parts and weathering.

Happy 2012

-Dave

So what is your MRR resolution for the new year?

I’m gonna do the best I can with what I got!
If I can afford it, I will try to purchase what I can!

But, over all, I hope that I can have (maintain) the talent, & have the time to really enjoy & grow in the hobby!

PS, & also continue to have internet acces, so I can share with Ya-All!! Hee heee…

Seriously, ALL of YOU have had a big influence on me & I appreciate your input, (& perhaps the challenges), but most of all, the enjoyment of sharing & talking, etc.

I’m looking forward to another wonderful Model Railroading year ahead!!!

Thanks Everyone!

  1. Get my 18 ft N scale paper mill ready for a show in febuary.

  2. In summer start on my N scale city for next years show.

For next year:

I want to focus on model building, as in get my airbrush and compressor setup up and running for warmer weather so I can paint models for a change.

Upgrade the models I already have, meaning proper couplers, wheels, and detailing.

I also want to meet more layout owners in the area and try out some operations. I always found them a load of fun.

Go to at least 1-2 Timonium Shows
