New York, New Jersey transit agencies prepare for Super Bowl crowds

So why illustrate this story with a photo of a train on the New Haven (Connecticut) line train?

NJ Jersey Transit now has 26 brand new dual powered locomotives (AC cat. wire and diesel) some of which will probably be used for through trains under the Hudson to Secaucus Junction from NYC, Long Island, and Connecticut.

The idea of running dual modes from LIRR to Secaucus was thrown around but since LIRR can barely manage to run their own services due to an over abundance of inept officials, I’d be happily surprised if they could strike a deal and coordinate with NJT to run special trains across the Hudson but I doubt it. :frowning:

Let me, please, be corrected.
The ex NH MU’s could run thru to Secaucus powered by wire.
LIRR (the article sp. it LIR, never before happened) could be shoved from the over-running 3rd rail at Penn station to The Hudson’s west shore, where the DE-E engine could take over, or is there still 3rd rail in the Hudson River Tunnels?
Hudson River Line trains could cross the Harlem River at Spuyten Duyvil, change ends in Penn Station, then get shoved under the Hudson (under-running 3rd rail shoes) ? DE-E takes over.
Did I get any of it right?

Here’s one good reason to have a good public transportation system, funded by The Guse and his “provider class”.

Because they run thru trips from the Metro North Connecticut side to Secaucus Junction.

Shades of Army-Navy games in Philly, with scores of GG1s and P-70 coaches lined up nearby. Like their Pennsy predecessors, I’ll bet MTA and NJT officials are praying for a lopsided score so fans will start leaving early and they can move the crowds out gradually. Looking forward to Trains’ coverage of this RR event.

I have not seen it suggested anywhere that they will be running any through-trains from the LIRR or Metro North on to NJ Transit. Why does anyone think that will be happening?
