My daughter purchased a New ZW for her boys 2 years ago and it had never been out of the box until last week and when powered up the right hand AU supply continues to put power to the track even though the handle is OFF. I have tried the RESET calibration procedure but no luck. I took it home and removed mine and tried hers. Everything works manual or TMCC but the right hand control still keeps putting out voltage to the track even with the handle off. Ideas would be appreciated.
I’m sure you’ll get a better answer in the morning, but I assuming you have 2 180 w bricks ? Check the output with a meter to see how much voltage your getting. Also, double check the reprogramming. Once the meter is adjusted to 0 volts, hold the reset button in and you need to blow the whistlte. The exact sequence is in the book. It is also possible that the the handle was not at set at zero. Sure you will get some better answer in the am.t
Her book doesn’t say anything about blowing the whistle. It tells me to set the handles if off position and have the reset pressed while you power the main brick up and then the red light will flash 5 times telling me that all is reset. We-ll the light flashes 5 times with the sequence I mentioned but the power is still on the track with the handle off.
I have never heard of the whistle blow procedure either.
Make sure you have a load on the transformer when you measure the voltage. If there is no load, some residual voltage is normal. Connect the transformer to a piece of track and place a lighted caboose on the track and then measure the voltage with the handle at the ‘Off’ position. If the voltage is still there, retry the calibaration procedure again.
I was scratching my head, trying to remember and should have taken full advantage of the opportunity to not posting, without having ALL the correct information. I saw the original post and was thinking that there was a process where you blew the whistle a couple of times, then adjusted the throttle while pushing the reset button. Thought it was identified as an alternated sequennce, when you were using the ZW Controller and conventional engines. Boy, am I ever embarrassed !
And Jon, I think you’re right, it must have been with the C80. Possible involving the Polar Express? That really sounds familiar.
Alaska1040, I sincerly apologize! I hope the problem got fixed! I was thinking of the time change and the hour, and didn’t want you to think you were being ignored.
It happened to mine a long time ago. The gears on the reostat slipped in relation to the gear on the handle. there is enough “give” in the plastic componets for this to happen. I took off the top and turned the reostat gears all the way off while holding the handle gear awayenough to do so . of course i turned the handle all the way to 0 before allowing them to reengage. it was a long time ago so I do not remember all the particulars but you get the picture. You just have to look at it and figure out the exact details
