Newbie - Difference AC4400 / C44-9W need a shell/dummy

What is the difference between athearn’s AC4400 and C44-9W locomotives. I have an SP C44-9 thet melted in the trunk during my last move and was hoping to find a shell that would fit this models chassis. I have not been able to find a C44-9 shell or dummy unit to replace rebuild it and was searching for more options. If you happen to know I am specifically looking for the SP/BNSF/BN/SF/UP road names.

Thank You much

In order to find a replacement ebay usually has a wide selection of loco’s or go to a hobby shop and ask them. I believe that the difference between the dash 9 and the 4400 is that the 4400 has a large box on the side that converts the electric current to AC from DC. Hints the name AC400.
Here is a picture I took the first SP unit is a C44-9W and the UP unit is an AC4400. Notice the large box behind the cab on the UP unit.

Ok so if they are essentially the same model then the athearn AC4400 shell should fit onto my C44-9w without a problem right?

Thanks for the reply

It should as long as the frames are the same. I am assuming that Athearn used the same frame for both models.

I suggest calling or sending an e-mail to Athearn to find out if they have any of those shells available.

grandprix104- The athearn Ac4400 and c44-9 are idntical shells. Just pull one off and put on the new one. You should be able to find one for cheap on Ebay. I know I got my c44-9 dummy cheap on ebay. Good Luck.

There is a fella named ATSFDON who sells athearn shells on ebay, he always has C44-9 and AC4400 shells, usually UP. He usually puts 2 of the same road number up at a time.
