Newbie here.........

Just wanted to say hi to the board…I finally decided to get back into an old hobby this christmas and wanted to catch up on all the new goodies out there. The site seems very informative. Thanks…Rich

Welcome,

Ask your questions. Save money by asking about things you want to buy.

The only dumb question is the one you don’t ask.

Rich,
Welcome to the forums, welcome back to the hobby, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. [#welcome][#welcome][#welcome]

Welcome, Rich, and enjoy yourself. The people on this web are very helpful and informative. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you have, that’s how we ALL learn. Have a good time–I know that I do.

Welcome. I beat you back by a couple of months, after 25 year layoff. This is a good place to get ideas and friends.

Hi, Rich. I came back after 40 years (in the wilderness [:D] ) but got a really bad attack of the bug last January. I think it really happened about the second week in November when I decided I needed some toys, and hauled out the Christmas Tree train set early. it was all uphill from there. Passed a hobby shop, and the rest is just a story that dozens of us here share.

I hope you keep in touch and let us know of your concerns, your questions, give us a sense of where you think you’d like to go from here, etc.

Welcome Rich!!! Like all the rest said, enjoy yourself here and give us any info you have about trains. A newbie is always welcome!!! Hope to see you get big in the hobby soon!!!

Welcome back!

I think you’ll find that a lot has changed, so don’t hold back on the questions. Ask away, thats one of the things that we like to do best here.

Thanks for the welcome! This is a hobby my father introduced me to when I was a kid. My dad still models his HO scale today, some 60 years after his father showed him the hobby. My dad however, is not computer literate so I doubt he will be able to find his way here. LOL. Thanks again…
Rich

Since the last time I did any modeling, Block control wiring was the latest craze. I am going to get back into the hobby after a very long absence. I feel like a newbie since terms like DCC and aucumate knuckler couplers are greek to me. If I get on your nerves with silly questions, just tell me to do some reading and get with it.

No fears, bigjohn. Every one of us started with our first question. I think it was something like, “Huh?” [:D]

I was away for 40 years, but I decided to jump in head first. Luckily, it was deep…oh, so deep.

Take a few weeks and read, by all means. The big differences are in the smaller wheel flanges that require better track alignments (fortunately, it is easilly learned after some trial and error), and the new digital control mechanism that allows you to control locomotives without block control, and even to tune your loco’s performance and sound. You get whistle, bells, flange squeel, coupler crash, injector sounds, and so on.

Please accept that the hobby is very much advanced, and that you will thank us when you are finally running trains with the DCC system that you eventually choose.
