Newbie knowing nothing

Hello all,

I am currently going to start this hobby @ 43 years of age. It’s now my time to play and do as I please. I am going with HO, and have hit E-bay up for a few sets, accessories, and loco’s. I know absolutely nothing except I want to do this, I can afford it, and I am serious. I will take any and all advice and information that I can get. Also, where can I find basic info that you guys (and gals) take for granted. For example, I don’t know what the #'s after a steam loco mean (4-8-2 ? 0-6-0?). Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Eddie PS…feel free to e-mail me @ Hdfltri2003@yahoo.com

Eddie, you would probably be better off posting this on the Model Railroader forum. That’s where all the HO guys are. This board deals mainly with Lionel O gauge.

Well seeing you posted on the Classic Toy Trains Forum, I’ll advise you to RUN not walk, but RUN away from H.O. Scale trains! They and their even smaller brethren are instruments of the devil!

As a fellow 43 year old guy with a basement full of “O” Gauge three-rail trains, I think I can say with some authority that you should be suspicous of all trains that run on two rail track, with only a slight dispensation for the American Flyer guys.

To paraphrase the guy on the 100 Years of Lionel video: guys wh play withtwo-rail trains are a little odd…a little artistic…and frankly slightly subversive.

I have been running lionel o-gauge on the carpet through the holidays for ten plus years. 2005 I started running trains year round and I found the information at worlds greatest hobby web site very helpful. You should also visit a hobby store, a store operated by actual train enthusiasts. Have fun!
