Newbie needs controller

My sons has a Lionel 0-27 Norfolk & Western that we bought in 97. The train stoppped working…so I took it to a hobby shop. The gentleman said it was the transformer as he pointed to the controller. He said the power pack was OK. His replacement was over $40. I never asked the part # as I quickly scampered out the door!!! I’ve searched and am unable to find a picture or similar part on the web. Where’s the best place to look for parts like this. Heck…I can’t even get the dang thing apart!! Guess I need a bigger hammer?

It’s probably not worth trying to repair it, if it is the transformer. If you don’t want to buy a new one, you can watch Ebay or check out a train show locally- should he able to get a used one that (hopefully) works!

I don’t know what it is. It has no numbers etc… and there’s nothing in the manual. My power is a Class 2 transformer Model JK-16121-SA. 120 VAc, 60Hz, 27W
with an O/P of 16AC and 1.2A. Will any “modern” lionel controller work?
