Newbie question on modeled SP engines in the late 50s

Greetings and Salutations,

After reading this forum for the last few months I have taken my first steps in renewing my interest in model railroading. I modeled in HO in my youth but left due to various reasons. As I have grown older (a lot older) I have longed for those olden days when I had an O gauge set.

I am hoping to have a small layout I can put around the Christmas tree next year. In the mean time the wife doesn’t seem to mind my “Carpet Central” layout.

Question, has any manufactor of O gauge engines ever modeled the EMD SW1200 (or SW9, etc.) in the black & red or bloody nose configuration of SP? My Grandmother lived across the street from the SP tracks and this is the engine that I remember (anyway I think this is the correct engine) as a very young child.

Thanks for any info.

Go to www.atlaso.com check the new products listing and go back a few years. Look under the SW headings. Find item #6110 and see if this is what you are looking for. MTH has made the SW series as well. Not sure if they offered a SP. You can check on their Product Locater at www.mth-railking.com

Thanks, a quick check shows the MP15dc which I believe is the sucessor to the EMD SW1200 line of yard switchers but the MP15dc is not the engine I remember, but then again it was almost 50 years ago, so my memory may be fuzzy.

Lionel K-line has a SP work train with the MP15 engine.

I have seen pictures where somebody took a beeb engine and kit bashed it into a EMD SW type engine. I did like this engine.

Thanks for your info.

Tim

My interest in SP mainly about steam but as far as the early diesels, they did have a lot of Alco S-2s. Not sure if any were modeled in that color scheme though.
