About 1:12 the size of whatever you want to model.
If what you want to model i 2 foot gauge (ie 24" gauge), then you would want track that are 2" gauge.
If it is 3 foot gauge you want to model, you’’ want track that is 36/12= 3" gauge.
If it is standard gauge (ie 4 feet 8 1/2 inches), you would want track that is 4.7" gauge.
You will be most likely to find some recommendations about commercially available mechanisms and track by asking your question in the garden layouts forums - the model railroader forums tend to be about far smaller scales than 1:12 - the most common being 1:87.1 (H0 scale) and 1:160 (N scale).

The standard gauge of G-scale track is 45mm, which equates to a scale size of something like 1:32. For 1:12 you’ll probably have to hand-lay the track. G-scale rail will probably be too small, so you may need to look for some track used by the people who run the larger ride-on live steam layouts.
Here’s one possible source that I found by searching the Internet, http://www.realtrains.com/ and I’m sure there are many others.
Thanks Stein
Got the wrong forum? Geez, do I feel stupid. I will certainly look there and thanks for your help once again
