Hi All,
I’m about to get involved in this great hobby of Model Rail Roading and since my last first hand experience was as a kid I have some basic questions. I have decided on Lionel O Gauge and would like to start with a Ready to Run set of recent vintage, here are my questions
- Is there a significant difference in quality between the Engines of the various R2R sets (Priced $299 - $499 MSRP) or are they just cosmetic differences.
- Is there a notable difference between Trainsounds and Rail Sounds?
- Diesel or Steam Locomotive?
I cann’t answer the first 2 but the last is what you what. I personally model diesel because that’s what I like.
I hope you have lots of money if you plan on modeling O gauge…it’s pretty expensive …if i had the cash and the space, that’s what i would model…O gauge…but since i don’t I’m an HO modeler, it has the most stuff on the market and you don’t need a grand amount of room to build a layout…a lot of the starter sets are going to be low quality…it may be wiser if you purchase everything a piece at a time…starter sets are mostly for kids and their first train sets,…piece by piece will usually have better detailing and the quality will be better…steam or diesel?..that’s your choice…which ever you like is the way to go…chuck
If you pick the so-called “transition era”, roughly 1940 thru about 1958, you can have both steam and diesel. You’ll find a lot of us do that.
