I wanted to share some pics of my newest kit: An Alexander Scale Models Freight Station. Here are some that I took late last night.
I’ve added some things to the interior that weren’t part of the kit:
Wood flooring
Door and window trim
Sliding freight doors
Interior wall (for 2 rooms)
Beam support
I’m about 90% done. All that is left to do is to construct the roof assembly, which will still be a challenge. I’d like to add some furniture eventually and a few more details.
Looks great Tom! I really like the sliding freight doors. However, the scale of the grain in your wood floor is slightly out of whack![(-D] Just kidding…
Thanks. I will probably add a couple of grain-'o-wheat bulbs for outdoor lighting and 2 or 3 for inside lighting - one for each room. I need to figure how I’m going to wire it first.
Thanks. The kit came with two (2) sheets of 600 grit sand paper cut to a specific size. I ended up using one of them to sand a part before I realize what it was supposed to be used for. [:I] I have plenty of 600 grit paper layout around the house.
I need to look at pictures of the prototype again… I may, however, take Stuckarmchairing suggestion and look at the Campbell shingles. Shingles would look pretty cool.
Uhhhhh…the flooring was made from a REALLY big tree??? Thanks, Trevor. You’re absolutely right though If I were to do it again, I would definitely lay down dimensional wood (like 1 x 4) to simulate wood flooring strips. Hmmmmm. Ya’ know…I may still have enough clearance to try that after all…
You’re darn tootin’, Crandell! [:D] Besides the obvious love for trains, this is what MRRing is all about - for me. As I go along, or as I look at something in hindsight, I can see how I would do something or try a technique a little (or a lot) differently the next time.
IWhen I’m done, I’m planning on jotting down all the discoveries, things, and techniques that I learned onto the kit nstruction sheet so that I can refer back to them in the future.
Why don’t you try scribing 3" wide lines in the floor to simulate hardwood flooring. If you color some differently it could take away that big board look.
Good suggestion. I’ve done that on a couple of other floors that I modeled. It’ll be a little more challenging since I can’t take the floor out but I can make do with a small straight rule.
