Newly announced Atlas HO Track Cleaning Car

I just got the email that included this offering. Price is steep, but considering what the thing is capable of doing with its various inserts, it may be worth it. I guess time will tell…I don’t plan on purchasing one, but I would be very keen to hear of its utility eventually. I guess I’m saying I like the idea.

I will be getting one.

I have the N scale version, and other than the vacuum feature, which is great when it’s not clogged up, it’s pretty much useless.

Hobbies USA has it listed for $74. I wondered if the motors would be strong enough to be of any use?

it only has one motor that spins a disk on the bottom of the car with either sandpaper or nylon cloth glued to it, or you take the disk off, and put the vacuum fan on the shaft. The extra inserts (disks) are just replacements for when the first one wears out.

the brush will catch on every sub 100 perfect track joint, guard rail and frog, rolling up under the car and derailing it.

the tank for liquid cleaner had no valve to open/close/adjust/ it just leaks until empty or clogged.

the vacuum feature works great if you check it once evey couple of minutes to see that the fan is not clogged, it will find stuff on the roadway that you had no idea was there.

Thanks for the hints, river eagle. The last thing I did to my tracks was to sprinkle WS “cinders” on them, and I didn’t feel like gluing it all over again. So, that would be swept up, and I’d have to replace it all…no thanks.

CMX car all the way.
