Newport News Amtrak trains canceled this week
I wonder if the coal trains that run this route are being canceled as well?
Per the Amtrak timetable, Train 84 begins at Richmond Staples Mill at 8:00 am Mon-Fri.
Until rail passenger service is resumed, northbound travelers from the greater Hampton Roads area may want to consider Train 174, which departs Norfolk at 5:00 am Mon-Fri.
@Noel Stakes - It’s relatively easy to reschedule coal. But passengers tend to need to be at work or other destination by a certain time; it doesn’t do me any good to show up at work at 9 p.m. if my start time is 8 a.m. Coal doesn’t care what time it gets to the power plant.
What a shameful excuse this country still maintains for “passenger trains.”
Why didn’t they try diverting the cancelled runs to/from Newport News to norfolk instead of just dropping them at Richmond, and run a connecting bus to Newport News?
