News story on new Kate Shelly bridge in Iowa

Some neat info.

This is my favorite picture of bridge.

I still find the story surrounding the bridge facinating and heroic. I hope the new bridge retains the name of the old as I can’t think of another similar hero in the last 100 years.

You’ve been down on that road too, eh Bob?

Me, three–and Pat may have some pictures to prove it!

Looks like a bit has been accomplished on some of the piers there!

I wonder how many of us have taken pictures from that same middle of nowhere road?

You’ve gotta be careful down there though. Those old campgrounds on the west side are occupied by some interesting people. My brother in law took me there once since he worked woth one of them. They kept a chest freezer in the house that didn’t work fillled with water and creek chubs and they had a microwave buried in the ground with a fire in it with PVC pipe going from it to an old fridge that they were using to smoke carp in. I’m not sure the whole family had a full set of teeth between them all. Nice people though but all I could think of was the movie Deliverence.

Somewhere I have a few pictures from shall we say a different angle…[:-^]

Alright! Can’t wait to see 'em.

The wife and I are coming over to DM Sunday to visit with the kids- maybe my future son-in-law and I can sneak away to Boone to check things out. If we’re lucky. Probably not.
