74 makes me think of so many B&W pictures of crews from the steam era where the engineers all looked to be about that old.

If you are refering to the crews on the top trains, yes.

74 sounds way too young to pass on - in the 21st Century. In the early 20th Century it would have been a long life. In the 21st US life expectancy is 78.4, it is higher in other countries.
