Newsreel Footage - before our time

Thank you for sharing, Balt. I think I see something strange at 9m10s/09:10. [swg]

So many things people living in those years went through; the World War I, the Great Depression and then the World War II…

Not strange for the era.

I actually remember this happening, but maybe before most of you.

This happend a few days before the Eisenhauer Inaguration in Janury 1953. My father had been called from his post in Garrett, IN to Washington to assist in the B&O’s handling of inaguration operations. With our family roots being in Baltimore, the occasion was used as a family vacation in addition to my fathers work responsibilities.

Since no B&O passenger trains from the West gets to Baltimore without a stop in Washington, my father took me down to the basement level of WUT to see the efforts being undertaken to restore a workable passenger level floor as well as the efforts being undertaken for the removal of the GG-1 that stayed in the basement until being removed after the inaugeration. Being 6 at the time, my memories are only about seeing it, not the details of what was all taking place.

This incidence probably inspired a lots of director from Hollywood.

Btw, this is my choice:

I am not a UP fan but I really admire their vision of rail industry.

Please pass the popcorn.
