Photo by TRAINS: Kathi Kube CEDARBURG, Wis. — Ryan Schoenfeldt, a frequent TRAINS photo contributor and occasional author, died last night. He was 34. Schoenfeldt grew up in Manitowoc, Wis., and took an interest in trains from a young age. He moved to Cedarburg and took a job in the Milwaukee area in 1997. The presence of relatives in Randolph, Wis., a rural area along Union Pacific’s lightly trafficked Adams Subdivision, frequently brought him to the area, and the line became a favorite subject. Admirers will likely remember Schoenfeldt for his remarkable silhouettes of railroad subjects, often made with a wide-angle lens. But he was equally good with human interest subjects, frequently including working railroaders and trackside bystanders into his work. The Center for Railroad Photog |
